Equipment Operator: Transportation
The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River is currently seeking a full time Equipment Operator within the Transportation team based out of our Flatbush Office. Reporting to the Transportation Foreman, the Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment for municipal district operations. Heavy equipment may include loaders, dozers, graders, excavators, tractors, and packers.
Responsibilities
Duties may include (but are not limited to):
- Operates heavy equipment a safe and effective manner according to relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- Performs daily safety and maintenance checks, minor repairs and maintains logs. Advises supervisor of any mechanical or safety issues.
- Cleans equipment as scheduled or required and ensures equipment is safely stored.
- Installs or removes special equipment and attachments.
- Responds in a professional and timely manner to inquiries, complaints, or suggestions from clients, providing effective follow-up as required.
- Reports facility problems to the Health & Safety Coordinator for the provision of a safe work environment.
- Displays effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills to effectively maintain professional relationships and communications with management, coworkers, internal customers, and the public.
- Demonstrates flexibility and creativity at work by identifying efficiencies, seeking to improve.
- Carries out physical labor including outdoor and indoor, as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
Education and Certifications
- Grade 12 Diploma — preferred
- Valid Alberta Class 3 Driver’s License — preferred
- Alberta Class 1 with Air Brake Endorsement — preferred
- Heavy Equipment Operator’s Certificate — asset
Abilities and Experience
- 3 years experience in grader operating — required
- Must be physically fit and able to do heaving lifting work — required
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time, able to climb in and out of machinery — required
- Must be willing to work in all types of weather conditions — required
- Excellent social, communication, and relationship management skills — required
- Ability to work well under pressure, individually and as part of a team — required
