Peace Officers to issue cleanup orders

Introduced in 2023, the Community Standards and Safety Bylaw 2023-03 serves as a valuable tool to improve the safety, appearance and overall quality of life in our communities. It provides Peace Officers with a clear set of guidelines for upholding these standards. This updated bylaw has superseded the previous Nuisance Bylaw 2007-05.

In the weeks ahead, Peace Officers will begin issuing cleanup orders to individuals breaching this bylaw, specifically targeting properties deemed as nuisances. Residents must maintain their properties free of litter, including waste or garbage not in authorized garbage receptacles, and refrain from discarding litter on private or public lands within the MD.

The term “litter" includes solid waste, wood, metal, tires, glass, clothing, paper, food containers, grass clippings, and various materials, as well as junked vehicles, vehicle parts, household items, appliances, and animal waste.

"Nuisance" refers to any property use or activity deemed unsafe, potentially harmful to individuals or other properties nearby, or causing unreasonable interference with neighbouring properties' use and enjoyment. This includes deteriorated displays on fences or walls, unsightly structures, excavations, or hazardous holes.

The MD urges residents to view Bylaw 2023-03, which includes detailed definitions, property nuisances, safety regulations, compliance notices, inspection procedures, enforcement measures, and a thorough list of current penalties.

In advance, the MD thanks residents for their cooperation and dedication to the well-being, safety, and vitality of our Rugged-and-Real region.
