Alberta boosts agriculture and agri-food sector with $2.5 million investment in worker support.


Record-setting economic growth in Alberta’s agriculture and agri-food sector has ignited demand for workers across the province. To support producers and processors, Alberta, in partnership with the federal government, is providing $2.5 million to Agriculture for Life to help companies recruit, hire, and retain workers in the agriculture and agri-food industry. The funding will provide eligible companies with grants to increase public awareness of agricultural career opportunities, as well as human resources training to support worker retention.

Grant Stream 1: Improve Awareness of Agriculture and Agri-food Related Careers


Program objectives

The objectives of this grant program are to:

  • Increase public and job seeker awareness of the agriculture and agri-food processing sectors.
  • Promote agriculture and agri-food processing sectors awareness; including social media campaigns focused on highlighting the career opportunities in the sector.
  • Promote specific job opportunities with individual Alberta-based companies.

Funding

  • 80/20 cost share: Provide grants to industry of 80% of eligible expenses incurred, to a maximum of $40,000 per Applicant.
  • Clients may apply for funding more than one time, however not for the same work. Each application must show a different strategy or intended outcome.
  • Projects must be completed by February 2024.
  • Clients will be reimbursed based on completion of the project and scope of work within the project timelines, and paid invoices supplied to Agriculture for Life, Inc.

Grant Stream 2: Support the Improvement of Human Resources Practices and Capacity


Program Objectives

The objectives of this grant program are to:

  • Provide primary agriculture and agri-food sectors with training and support to improve human resource business skills, to attract and retrain workers, and reduce turnover. This training may include a contracted service provider that is included in the producer or business owner’s grant application.
  • Build self-reliance and expertise in the industry by increasing human resources knowledge and best practices.

Funding

  • 90/10 cost share: Provide grants to industry of 90% of eligible expenses incurred, to a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $30,000 per Applicant.
  • Provide qualified Applicants with funds to engage facilitators who will coach business owners on best practices in human resources.
  • Clients may apply for funding more than one time, however not for the same work. Each application must show a different strategy or intended outcome.
  • Projects must be completed by February 2024.
  • Clients will be reimbursed based on completion of the project and scope of work within the project timelines, and paid invoices supplied to Agriculture for Life, Inc.
