The Lesser Slave Lake Regional Waste Management Services Commission is currently seeking a full-time Yard/Scale Attendant. The position is based out of the Regional Landfill in Wagner. This position is responsible for the scale operation and yard maintenance of the facility on a daily basis and reports to the Landfill Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for controlling the traffic entering or exiting the facility
  • Operate the scale software and print off tickets and reports
  • Ensuring the facility operates in accordance with the Approval from Alberta Environment and is incompliance with the operations plan and all applicable legislation
  • Direct site users to appropriate disposal or storage locations
  • Daily site inspections, monitor compaction rates, litter control methods
  • Performs duties and operates all equipment used in maintenance of roads, recycle areas, landfill, class II area, or any other facility under the facility’s responsibility
  • Perform manual labour as necessary
  • Undertake all preventative maintenance, repairs, and operation of all equipment
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License
  • Grade 12 high school diploma
  • Physically fit
  • Willingness to work in all types of weather and outdoor conditions
  • Heavy equipment experience
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills with co-workers and the public
  • Possess own form of transportation

Wage:

Dependent on education and experience. Based on a 32-hour work week.

The M.D. is currently seeking a full-time FireSmart Coordinator for a 2-year term to join the Lesser Slave Region FireSmart Committee (LSRFC). This position is responsible for communicating the directives of the Lesser Slave Region FireSmart Sustainability Plan, arranging for implementation of those directives, and achieving those items.


 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the LSRFC in developing and managing the long term FireSmart sustainability plans regarding education and community engagement programs
  • Support delivery of curriculum-based programs on FireSmart Education and FireSmart Community Engagement programs within the Lesser Slave Lake Region
  • Communication of FireSmart events, programs, and achievements
  • Coordinate and deliver FireSmart education programs with agencies outside our region
  • Works collaboratively with the Lesser Slave Regional Fire Services, the FireSmart Crew, AB Agriculture and Forestry representatives, and Tri-Council
  • Lead the development and management of special FireSmart education and community engagement projects
  • Other duties as required

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Degree/Diploma and/or work experience in the Science of Natural Resources, Environment, Forestry, Communications, or Education
  • Previous experience planning and coordinating public outreach and program campaigns
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write correspondence, research and prepare reports and public education materials
  • Ability to work independently; ability to positively contribute to a teamwork environment
  • Ability to multitask, manage, and complete multiple projects within timelines provided

The M.D. is currently seeking a full-time Project Manager. This position is responsible for managing project contracts on a day-to-day basis and provides project management coordination for all operational departments of the Municipal District.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the delivery of a project from the planning or design stage through to the completion of construction and the end of the warranty of the project
  • Ensures that the planning and/or design phases are completed to proper standards and within approved budget and timeframe
  • Prepares selection and brief for the Project Sponsor to take to MD Council
  • Chairs the project initialization and preconstruction meetings
  • Arranges post construction meeting after the construction completion inspection
  • Reviews and administers scope changes, project team changes, and completion date extensions
  • Other duties as required

Skills and Apitudes:

  • An equivalent combination of a Civil Engineering Degree or Civil Engineering Technology Diploma along with a minimum of two years of comparable work experience (preferably in a municipal environment)
  • Familiarity with municipal practices
  • Well-developed communication and interpretation skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • External communication is often sensitive, confidential, controversial, and complex; considerable tact, negotiation and persuasion is often required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Projects)
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in GIS, CAD, or other civil engineering software
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License

  • Responsible for fleet operation and daily site maintenance of equipment
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other computer software
  • Self-motivated and demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment
  • Demonstrates the ability to delegate, prioritize, and multi-task to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with a focus on customer service, tact, diplomacy, and competency
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License
